<p>Make sure the area where you want to pump the wing is free of sharp objects, like rocks and fences.</p>

<p>Look for some wind shade while pumping up the wing. In case you can’t find an area with less wind, ask a friend to hold the wing while you<span id="more-6764"></span> pump.</p>

<p>Find out the wind direction, unfold your wing by laying it on the ground, struts facing up with the wind blowing from your back.</p>

<p>Make sure the hose clamp on the hose connecting the leading edge to the strut is open.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image is-resized"><img src="https://freewing.star-board.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/Starboard-free-Wing-how-to-inflate-wing-2020-hose-clamp-300x120.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="120"/></figure>

<p>Make sure the air valve on the central strut is closed.</p>

<p>Spread the wing on the floor, make sure it does not have any creases. This allows the air to flow in without deteriorating the wingtips.</p>

<p>Attach the hook connector from the pump to the leash knot.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image"><img src="https://freewing.star-board.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/Starboard-free-Wing-how-to-inflate-wing-2020-hook-300x279.jpg" alt=""/></figure>

<p>Screw the base of the valve clockwise into the thread on the Leading edge.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image"><img src="https://freewing.star-board.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/Starboard-free-Wing-how-to-inflate-wing-2020-turn-the-valve-300x279.jpg" alt=""/></figure>

<p>Connect the pump nozzle into the valve of the wing. Turn clockwise for a better insertion.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image"><img src="https://freewing.star-board.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/Starboard-free-Wing-how-to-inflate-wing-2020-connect-pump-nozzle-300x279.jpg" alt=""/></figure>

<p>Inflate to the recommended pressure.</p>

<p>Close the hose clamp. To close the valve, squeeze the clamp together while feeling the teeth ratchet until the clamp feels tight. (Secure floatation in case of leakage)</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image"><img src="https://freewing.star-board.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/Starboard-free-Wing-how-to-inflate-wing-2020-close-hose-clamp-300x279.jpg" alt=""/></figure>

<p>Put the harness lines in place using the ties made for this purpose – see section “How To Tie The Harness Lines”</p>

<p>Once you have put the leash on, the set up is ready! You can then use the leash to keep the wing attached to a heavy and secure object while you go to set up your board and put on your water clothes. Right on!</p>

<p>*Pump is not included in the FreeWing package</p>

<p>We have designed our wings to offer you the best comfort while riding. Harness lines make your navigation easier. Allowing you to put all your energy into tricks and stay longer on the water! How to correctly tie the lines</p>

<p>There are two loops on the<span id="more-6724"></span> central strut, (A) and (B). Close to the Leading edge stands loop (A), and loop (B) stands closer to the Trailing edge.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image"><img src="https://freewing.star-board.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/Starboard-free-Wing-how-to-tie-attach-harness-2020-loop-300x167.jpg" alt=""/></figure>

<p>The harness line consists of two pieces, (a) shorter rope with different knots and (b), longer rope with the black PVC attached.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image"><img src="https://freewing.star-board.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/Starboard-free-Wing-how-to-tie-attach-harness-2020-rope-300x214.jpg" alt=""/></figure>

<p>1. Insert the rope (a) into the loop (A).</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image is-resized"><img loading="lazy" src="https://freewing.star-board.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/Starboard-free-Wing-how-to-tie-attach-harness-2020-1.jpg" alt="" width="303" height="202"/></figure>

<p>2. Thread the end knot through the loop (a).</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image is-resized"><img loading="lazy" src="https://freewing.star-board.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/Starboard-free-Wing-how-to-tie-attach-harness-2020-2.jpg" alt="" width="305" height="203"/></figure>

<p>3. Tighten it up and make sure that loop (A) is being squeezed by the knot.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image is-resized"><img loading="lazy" src="https://freewing.star-board.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/Starboard-free-Wing-how-to-tie-attach-harness-2020-3.jpg" alt="" width="306" height="204"/></figure>

<p>4. Take piece (b) and do the same as step “1” using the (B) loop instead.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image is-resized"><img loading="lazy" src="https://freewing.star-board.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/Starboard-free-Wing-how-to-tie-attach-harness-2020-4.jpg" alt="" width="309" height="206"/></figure>

<p>5. Thread the end of the loop (the shortest side) through the other loop (longer side).</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image is-resized"><img loading="lazy" src="https://freewing.star-board.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/Starboard-free-Wing-how-to-tie-attach-harness-2020-5.jpg" alt="" width="309" height="206"/></figure>

<p>6. Tighten it up and make sure the loop (B) is being squeezed by the knot.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image is-resized"><img loading="lazy" src="https://freewing.star-board.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/Starboard-free-Wing-how-to-tie-attach-harness-2020-6.jpg" alt="" width="312" height="208"/></figure>

<p>7. Connect the loop of piece (b) into the knots of piece (a).</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image is-resized"><img loading="lazy" src="https://freewing.star-board.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/Starboard-free-Wing-how-to-tie-attach-harness-2020-7.jpg" alt="" width="311" height="207"/></figure>

<p>8. Adjust the length according to your body structure using the different knots.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image is-resized"><img loading="lazy" src="https://freewing.star-board.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/Starboard-free-Wing-how-to-tie-attach-harness-2020-1.jpg" alt="" width="312" height="208"/></figure>

Zane then takes it out to the water to show us how (and how not) to wingfoil with harness lines. Attaching yourself to your wing with a harness reduces the load on your arms so that you can ride longer.</p>

<p>*Note getting started in riding with harness lines and being attached to the wing can be dangerous and should only be performed by experienced wing riders.</p>

<p>In this wingboarding tutorial, you will learn:</p>

<ul><li>how to correctly attached lines to your wing</li><li>how to attach the lines to your harness once riding</li><li>safely factors to consider when riding attached to your wing when riding with a harness and harness lines</li></ul>

<p>In this 5 part beginners guide to winging video series, we’ll take you from zero to hero, starting from the beach to gliding above the water. With tried and tested <a href="https://www.wingfoil.co.za/wing-foil-lessons/">teaching methods</a> and techniques from foil coach Sam Ross coupled together with clear visuals from our on-water team, we’ll make your learning experience rewarding, simple, and fun.</p>

<p><em>“What sets this apart from other content is this really shows you how. With easy to follow steps, I’m confident we’ll get you up and flying in no-time.”</em></p>

<p><strong>– <a href="https://sam-ross.co.uk/clinics/wingfoil-clinic">Sam Ross</a></strong></p>

<h2><strong>Lesson One: Learning Wing Basics &amp; How TO Handle the Wing on the Beach</strong></h2>

<figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-embed-handler wp-block-embed-embed-handler wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper">
<iframe loading="lazy" title="Beginner&#039;s Guide to Learning Wing Basics | How to Wing Foil Series Ep. 1" width="625" height="352" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/G-SH53O3fEk?feature=oembed" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>
</div></figure>

<p>We start at the beach with kit setup and orientation. How to inflate the wing and leave it safely. Then we’ll look at parts of the wing, such as the power and neutral handles, Struts, window and leash.</p>

<p><br>Where a lot of people struggle is they take to the water too early, and don’t have success in flying the wing efficiently. Here we’ll do some exercises which really sets you up well before we take to the water.</p>

<ul><li>Wind awareness</li><li>Walking with Power</li><li>Leaving equipment</li></ul>

<h2><strong>Lesson Two: Learning to Wing Surf</strong></h2>

<figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-embed-handler wp-block-embed-embed-handler wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper">
<iframe loading="lazy" title="Beginner&#039;s Guide to Learning Wing Basics | How to Wing Foil Series Ep. 1" width="625" height="352" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/G-SH53O3fEk?feature=oembed" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>
</div></figure>

<p>Once we’re comfortable controlling the wing on the beach, we’ll look at combining the kit on the water. We’ll start with a large floaty board, so we can concentrate on honing our wing skills.</p>

<ul><li>Launching, landing &amp; self-rescue – paddle out</li><li>Kneeling across the wind with a basic turn.</li><li>Hold the neutral handle</li><li>Tack and gybe</li><li>Standing up across the wind with turns</li><li>How the board steers, center of effort and centre of lateral resistance.</li><li>Standing up and basic steer</li><li>Upwind and downwind</li><li>Progressing with powered turns</li></ul>

<h2><strong>Lesson Three: Learning to Wing Foil</strong></h2>

<figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-embed-handler wp-block-embed-embed-handler wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper">
<iframe loading="lazy" title="Beginners Guide to Learning Wing Foiling | How to Wing Foil Series Ep. 3" width="625" height="352" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/t1NuhVRAC9I?feature=oembed" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>
</div></figure>

<p>Now we’ve mastered wing surfing we’ll look to progress onto wing foiling. We will need to change the kit. The boards are typically smaller and of course, we’re adding a foil.</p>

<p>In this video, we’ll cover the following aspects to learn wing foiling:</p>

<ul><li>Foil setup, different foil tuning for more and less lift, how the foil attaches to the board, sizes</li><li>Launching, landing self-rescue with foil</li><li>Getting to your feet with a small board</li><li>Riding off the foil</li><li>First flights</li><li>Sustaining flights/adjusting height</li><li>Pumping</li><li>Upwind / downwind</li><li>Gybing</li><li>Riding switch/ foot change</li></ul>

<h2><strong>Lesson Four: Wing Foil Progression</strong></h2>

<figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-embed-handler wp-block-embed-embed-handler wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper">
<iframe loading="lazy" title="Beginners Guide to Progressing on the Foil | How to Wing Foil Series Ep. 4" width="625" height="352" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/jT2A4hmLOlk?feature=oembed" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>
</div></figure>

<p>We’ve covered the basics of wing foiling – now we’ll look at how to progress! Smaller kit, Faster turns, riding waves, learning to jump and some basic freestyle.</p>

<p>In this wing foil progression foil video from the FreeWing how-to series, we’ll cover the following topics:</p>

<ul><li>Foil setup</li><li>Smaller boards</li><li>Foiling turns</li><li>Jumps</li><li>Freestyle</li><li>Riding Waves</li></ul>

<h2><strong>Lesson Five: Know Your Gear</strong></h2>

<figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper">
<iframe loading="lazy" title="Beginners Guide to Winging Gear Explained | How to Wing Foil Series Ep. 5" width="625" height="352" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/eFMJ5HD4tes?feature=oembed" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>
</div></figure>

<p>The correct gear is paramount to a good Wingfoil experience. When you&#8217;re just starting out, the correct gear will help you to improve your rate of progression. </p>

<p>In this video from the FreeWing how-to series, we will look at all the various aspects of <a href="https://www.wingfoil.co.za/learn-to-wingfoil/">wingfoiling equipment</a> required for winging and dive into details on various aspects of this gear. </p>

<p>In this video, we cover:</p>

<ul><li>Board Selection</li><li>Leashes</li><li>Straps</li><li>The Foil</li><li>Front Wings</li><li>Foil Mast</li><li>Rear Wing</li><li>Foil Position</li><li>Foil Straps</li></ul>

<p>You will be able to use the repair kit enclosed in the wing bag. Note: If the leak is too big, please contact a kite repair professional. Before proceeding with any kind of repair, it’s important to follow the following steps:</p>

<ul><li>Repair it in a place that is sheltered<span id="more-6558"></span> from sand, water, and wind. Use a clean and flat surface to work on.</li><li>Surfaces will need to be cleaned with freshwater or preferably alcohol.</li><li>You will need the repair kit supplied and a marker.</li></ul>

<p><strong>1</strong>.<strong>LOCATE THE LEAK WITH THE BLADDER MOUNTED:</strong>&nbsp;Pump the wing and try to hear where the leak is located, pay special attention around the valve area. In case you cannot hear the leak, you can spray water onto the leading edge and strut. You will see bubbles popping out where the leak is. We do this step first before dismounting the bladder as sometimes the leak may occur very next to the tips or the zipper. In this case, the repair can be completed with the bladder mounted on the wing, you can skip steps 2 and 4 if this is your situation. If the leak is not close to these areas or we simply don’t detect the leak then we need to remove the bladder.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="300" height="279" src="https://www.wingfoil.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/Starboard-free-Wing-air-how-to-repair-2020-locate-the-leak-300x279-1.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-6560"/></figure>

<p><strong>2. TAKING OUT THE BLADDER:</strong>&nbsp;Disconnect the pipe from the strut, take off the valve if the wing is fitted with it. Tie one line on each side of the leading edge (wingtips), and take the leading edge bladder from the zipper.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="300" height="170" src="https://www.wingfoil.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/Starboard-free-Wing-air-how-to-repair-2020-remove-bladder-300x170-1.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-6561"/></figure>

<p><strong>3. LOCATE THE LEAK AND REPAIR:</strong>&nbsp;Use a water spray or sink the bladder into a pool or a bath tub. Once you locate the leak, dry up the area, make a circle around it with a pen, sand the area, then stick the repair patch (enclosed with the repair kit).</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="300" height="214" src="https://www.wingfoil.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/Starboard-free-Wing-air-how-to-repair-2020-mark-the-leak-300x214-1.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-6562"/></figure>

<p><strong>4. INSERT THE BLADDER INTO THE WING USING BOTH LINES:</strong>&nbsp;Pump it softly and make sure there are no wrinkles when the bladder reaches some pressure. Do not pump fully at the psi recommendation until the bladder is perfectly inserted.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="300" height="175" src="https://www.wingfoil.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/Starboard-free-Wing-air-how-to-repair-2020-insert-bladder-back-300x175-1.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-6563"/></figure>

<p></p>

<h4>1. Holding With Your Back hand &amp; Front hand</h4>

<p>First, begin by<span id="more-6541"></span> standing with the FreeWing in both hands, facing at a 45-degree angle into the wind with one hand at the front and one hand at the back. Once you got that, follow the next steps to get a feel of how the wing reacts to the wind.</p>

<h4>2. Feathering – Safety Position</h4>

<p>Grab the leading edge handle and point it upwind to disengage the FreeWing.</p>

<h4>3. Catching the Wind – To Go Forward</h4>

<p>With both hands and arms slightly extended, lift the FreeWing above your head. Gently raise the front arm up and catch the wind.</p>

<h4>4. Power Up – To Gain Speed</h4>

<p>Pull your back arm toward yourself when you want more power. Keep the top hand above your head and don’t let the nose drop down or the wingtip touch the ground.</p>

<h4>5. Depowering – To Slow Down</h4>

<p>Position both hands together at the same height above your head and point the leading edge upwind when you want to slow down.</p>
